DRAGON - Cornwall & Devon

The Dragon isn't your typical imposing wreck, and that's precisely why we love it. Instead, you'll find the scattered remains of a sailing vessel, broken up over centuries since it went down in 1757. It’s a shallow dive, barely 5 metres, making it perfect for an extended rummage. We've spent many an hour here, tracing the line of ribs and timbers that emerge from the sand. There’s a real sense of history to picking through these pieces, imagining the cargo of sugar and rum it carried from Jamaica. Now, crabs scuttle through the gaps, and we often spot butterfish darting amongst the barnacle-encrusted wood. Look closely, and you’ll find small blennies peering out from crevices. It’s not about grand vistas; it's about the small discoveries, the tangible link to the past, and the quiet beauty of marine life reclaiming what was lost. Our pick for a leisurely second dive, or for those days when you just want to potter about and connect with history.
