DROMORE - Cornwall & Devon

The Dromore is a proper slice of history. She lies deep, around 52 metres, so this isn't one for the casual diver. We've always found her a rewarding dive for those with the training and experience to appreciate her. The wreck itself is pretty broken up, a testament to the gunfire that sent her down in 1917, but you can still make out the general shape of her hull, particularly the bow and stern sections. It’s the atmosphere down there we really love. The light barely penetrates, giving the whole site a wonderfully eerie feel. Keep an eye out for conger eels peeking from the darker recesses and the usual suspects of ballan wrasse and pollack cruising the superstructure. For us, the Dromore isn't about pristine coral or big pelagics, it’s about connecting with a piece of the past, the cold water adding to that sense of gravity. We’d suggest a good torch, and maybe even two. The visibility can be decent, but at that depth, you’ll want to cut through the gloom.
