DUDDON (PROBABLY) - Cornwall & Devon

Let's be honest, Duddon (Probably) isn't going to blow your mind with soaring walls or dizzying currents. But for a shallow wreck in Cornish waters, it’s got a certain charm. What we love about this site is its history, even if it's a bit fragmented, much like the wreck itself. The Duddon, a former lighter vessel, met its end here and then promptly broke in two during a salvage attempt before explosives further dispersed it. So what you get now is a spread of wreckage at a comfortable 7m. It’s a proper dive for poking around, spotting the details that survive – twisted metal, scattered plates, and the odd, sturdy beam. Our favourite part is how the marine life has embraced the chaos. You'll find plenty of gobies darting between crevices, crabs scuttling under plates, and we've even seen a decent-sized pollack or two lurking in the larger sections. Visibility can be typical for the area, so pick a calm day with a rising tide for the best chance of decent light penetration. It’s a great site for new wreck divers or anyone who enjoys a relaxed potter, appreciating the small victories and the quiet history beneath the waves.
