FANNY (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

Fanny (Possibly) is a wreck we always recommend for a relaxed afternoon dive, especially if you've got newer divers in the group or just fancy a longer bottom time. Lying at a comfortable 16 metres, it’s remarkably intact for its age, a sailing vessel from 1793 that ran aground en route from Swanage to London. You can still pick out the ribs of the hull, almost like a skeletal ship resting on the seabed. What we love about Fanny is how completely it’s been reclaimed by the local marine life. The timbers are thick with plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the mild current. We’ve often spotted dogfish tucked into crevices and, if you look closely, butterfish darting in and out of the broken decking. It’s a proper dive through history, quiet and contemplative, perfect for photographers wanting to capture that moody, encrusted wreck aesthetic without fighting strong currents or deep depths. Go on a sunny day and watch the light filter through the water, illuminating the anemones – it’s a beautiful sight.
