FLORRIE - Cornwall & Devon

The Florrie, off the coast of Cornwall, is a cracking little wreck for a relaxed dive. We love this site because it’s so accessible at just 14 metres, making it perfect for newer wreck divers or those looking for a gentle second dive. She was a sailing vessel that went down in 1918 after hitting an unknown object, and what remains today is a lovely jumble of timbers spread across the seabed. When you drop down, you’ll find the wreck well-broken but still very recognisable as a wooden ship. Sunlight filters through the kelp, dappling the timbers and creating these beautiful shafts of light. It's not a wreck you penetrate, but there are plenty of nooks and crannies between the collapsed planks to peek into. Look closely and you’ll spot a surprising amount of life: plenty of spider crabs scuttling over the wood, dogfish tucked away, and often a lazy conger eel peeking out from under a beam. Visibility can be a bit variable, as it often is in the UK, but on a good day, it’s a genuinely peaceful dive. We'd suggest timing your dive for slack water to avoid any current, making the exploration even more enjoyable.
