Fylrix MV Wreck - Cornwall & Devon

The Fylrix MV wreck, sitting off the Cornish coast, is a proper chunk of history on the seabed. We love a wreck with a story, and this old coaster, sunk in 1964, has a melancholic character to it. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is how the wreck has settled, almost listing gently to starboard, giving it a dramatic profile against the green-blue of the Channel. Penetration is possible in a few spots if you're experienced and careful, but for most, just finning around the superstructure is enough. Look closely at the cargo holds; they’re often packed with pout and bib, shoaling tightly, darting into the shadows as you approach. The stern is a favourite spot for us; the propeller is still intact, and the rudder makes a fantastic shelter for conger eels – we’ve seen some real monsters there, thick as a diver's thigh. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the area, but on a good day, when the sun streaks through the water, the Fylrix really comes alive, feeling more like an artificial reef than a tragic vessel. It’s a dive that rewards a slow pace, letting you soak in the atmosphere.
