GLENART CASTLE - Cornwall & Devon

The Glenart Castle, a WWI hospital ship, sits upright at 50 metres, a sombre and impressive dive. We love this wreck for its sheer scale and how the sea has reclaimed it. Dropping down, the bow is often the first thing to loom out of the green, a huge structure draped in dead man's fingers and anemones. You’ll spend most of your bottom time exploring the deck and superstructure, which, despite the depth, remains remarkably intact in places. Look for gaping holds that hint at the ship’s past, now home to plump conger eels and squat lobsters. It’s a challenging dive, obviously, due to the depth and often variable visibility, but the rewards are substantial for experienced wreckies. We’d suggest saving this one for a calm day with minimal swell for the best experience. The atmosphere down there is something else, a real connection to history.
