GLENDINNING (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The *Glendinning*, or what we strongly suspect is the *Glendinning*, sits deep off the Cornish coast, a sombre and impressive piece of history. We’re talking 58 metres here, so this is very much one for the experienced technical diver. Dropping down, you hit this massive, dark shape emerging from the murk. She’s a big steamship, sunk in 1944 on her way from Arromanches, a victim of U-953. Four lives lost on that day. We love how intact she feels for her age and depth. Her holds are open, inviting exploration, though you’ll want to be dialled in for penetration at this depth. Think vast internal spaces, the eerie silence broken only by your own bubbles. We've seen conger eels that look like tree trunks lurking in the shadows, and occasionally a curious anglerfish might pop its head out. The sheer scale of the engines and boilers is humbling. This isn't a site for quick photos, it’s for quiet contemplation and serious diving. Go on a slack tide, obviously, and be prepared for limited light. Bring good lights; you’ll need them to peel back the layers of history down there.
