GORAH LASS - Cornwall & Devon

The Gorah Lass might be a small wreck, but we love it for its character and the eerie calm it holds. This 11.9-metre fishing vessel sank unexpectedly in 1997, taking its crew with it, and that history still hangs in the water around it. Lying upright at 21 metres, she's surprisingly intact, with the wheelhouse a particular draw for a careful peek. You can peer into the main hold, imagining the catch that never made it to shore. What we really enjoy here is the resident life. Conger eels often peek from crevices, their heads thick as your arm. Look for velvet swimming crabs scuttling over the plating, their eyes like rubies in the torchlight. The small size makes it manageable for a relaxed exploration, perfect for divers who appreciate a quiet, reflective wreck dive rather than a sprawling metal behemoth. Best dived on a slack tide, the visibility can surprise you, offering clear views of the deck from above.
