GULNARE - Cornwall & Devon

The Gulnare, a sailing vessel lost back in 1836, isn't your deep, dramatic wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. Lying in just 2m of water, it’s basically a snorkel or a very shallow shore dive – perfect for when you want a relaxed dip rather than a full-on expedition. We’ve found the best approach is to hit it at high tide, giving you maximum water over the remains and better visibility, which, let’s be honest, can be a bit variable in this part of the world. What you'll see here are the scattered timbers and keel, well-broken down but still distinct enough to trace the outline of a ship. It's not about penetration or intact structures; it's about history laid bare and the life that now calls it home. We’ve spent ages just watching the blennies darting between the cracks, and the vibrant sea anemones clinging to the old wood. It’s a gentle exploration, a chance to really slow down and appreciate how nature reclaims things, even old ships. Ideal for photographers looking for macro subjects or anyone who fancies an easy paddle with a bit of historical intrigue.
