HAZLEWOOD (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Hazlewood, a steamship that went down in 1917, is one of those deeper Cornwall wrecks we always come back to. Dropping down onto her at 40 metres, you immediately feel the history. The structure is still pretty cohesive, not just a pile of plates, which means there’s plenty to explore. We love finning along the deck, picking out details that hint at her former life, the bow always feels particularly poignant. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as it often is in the UK, but on a good day, the light penetrates enough to illuminate the thick encrustations of dead man's fingers and anemones that blanket the metalwork. Look closely and you’ll spot dogfish tucked into crevices and maybe a conger eel peeking from a pipe. It’s a site that rewards multiple dives; you’ll always find something new, especially if you take your time. This one really suits experienced divers comfortable with depth and a bit of current, ready to appreciate a proper piece of maritime heritage.
