HEYE P - Cornwall & Devon

Oh, HEYE P. What a scattered delight she is, sitting just off the coast. We love this wreck not for its intact grandeur, but for the sheer volume of life that has utterly reclaimed her dispersed bones. Dropping down, you’re not looking for a ship shape structure; think more like a broken necklace of steel, spread across the seabed. The bow section is the most recognisable, often shrouded in schooling bib and pollack, while the stern lies further east, its propeller shaft a dark, enticing tunnel for conger eels. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as it often is in the UK, but on a good day, the light plays beautifully through the shifting shoals of fish that weave between the plates of rusted metal. We’d suggest a late incoming tide for the best conditions, bringing clearer water from deeper offshore. It’s a shallower wreck, making it a great second dive, and perfect for keen photographers who like to hunt for nudibranchs and jewel anemones – they’re everywhere.
