HMS BOYNE - Cornwall & Devon

The HMS Boyne, she's a proper piece of history, resting just off the Cornish coast. We love a wreck with a story, and the Boyne’s tale of accidentally blowing up and burning down to the waterline before she sank makes for some seriously dramatic underwater archaeology. You’re not getting a grand, intact ship here, rather a scatter of timbers and cannons, but that’s precisely her charm. At a shallow 10 metres, she's perfect for a longer dive, letting you really take your time poking around the debris field. We’d suggest going at slack tide; the currents here can get a bit pushy. The wooden hull has mostly disintegrated, but the sheer scale of the ship is evident in the spread of her remains. Think scattered ribs, thick timbers, and those impressive cannons, often adorned with plumose anemones and dead man's fingers. You’ll spot crabs scuttling amongst the wreckage and schools of pollack darting between the shadows. It feels like diving through a maritime graveyard, and the cool temperate water just adds to the atmosphere. It’s a site that really makes you think about the era.
