HMS COMPUTATOR (PROBABLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The HMS Computator, or what we strongly suspect is her, offers a proper deep wreck dive off the Cornish coast. Dropping down to 33 metres, you're greeted by the ghostly silhouette of a trawler, a vessel requisitioned by the Admiralty and then lost in a collision back in 1945. It’s a somber, silent place, a reminder of the war, and we find ourselves thinking about the crew every time we descend. What makes Computator special is her integrity. The bow section is particularly impressive, rising from the seabed, still very much a ship. We always take our time exploring the collapsed superstructure midships, a great spot to find conger eels and squat lobsters tucked into the nooks and crannies. Look for the deck gun, often encrusted with dead man's fingers, a striking contrast of military hardware softened by marine growth. The visibility here can be temperamental, as is often the case in the Channel, so picking a day with slack tide and settled weather is key for the best experience. It's a dive that rewards patience and a good torch, perfect for experienced wreck enthusiasts who appreciate history and the quiet beauty of a deep, encrusted wreck.
