JAMAICA PLANTER - Cornwall & Devon

The Jamaica Planter is one of our favourite wreck dives off the Lizard, a fantastic deep dive that really delivers. She’s a big ship, well broken up now after hitting a mine in 1944, but still very recognisable. Dropping down, you’ll often hit a bit of thermocline, but below that, the visibility can open up surprisingly well. We love finning along the bow section, still quite intact, where you’ll usually find schooling pollack darting in and out of the plating. The stern is a beautiful mess of twisted metal, home to some seriously large conger eels – we’ve seen heads the size of dinner plates peering out from under the collapsed deck. If you’re into exploring nooks and crannies, there are plenty here, but do keep an eye on your depth and bottom time. This site suits experienced divers comfortable with colder water and potential currents, but on a good day, it’s truly spectacular.
