JOSEF JOHAM (STERN HALF) (PROBABLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Josef Joham’s stern half, a casualty of a foggy 1958 collision, rests at 20 metres, and it’s a brilliant dive for those who appreciate a wreck with a story. We’ve found her to be quite broken up, but that just means more nooks and crannies for the resident critters. Look out for huge conger eels peering from the deeper sections, their heads the size of your forearm, and don’t miss the jewel anemones that plaster every available surface, particularly vibrant in the slight surge. The visibility here can be classic Cornish green, but that adds to the atmospheric gloom, especially when a school of pollack drifts past, their scales catching the diffused light. We’d suggest diving this on a slack tide to really explore the remaining structure, paying close attention to the propeller shaft and rudder area; it’s our favourite spot for spotting plump lobsters tucked away.
