K M B (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The K.M.B. is a proper deep wreck, and it’s one we really enjoy when the conditions are right. Sunk in 1987, this 15.2m fishing vessel sits upright and largely intact at 60m, making it a serious technical dive. Descending, you can often feel the thermocline bite as you pass 20m, then it’s just the slow, controlled drop into the green gloom. What we love about the K.M.B. is its immediate sense of purpose. You can still make out the wheelhouse structure, and the winches and nets are often draped over the deck, hinting at its working life. Conger eels are always a possibility here, tucked into any available crevice, and the metalwork is thick with jewel anemones and dead man’s fingers, glowing in your torch beam. Visibility can be decent for the UK, often 10m on a good day, but it’s a site for experienced trimix divers comfortable with deep decompression. Our tip? Go early in the season, late spring, before the summer plankton bloom kicks in. That’s when you get the clearest water.
