KAREN FOLMER - Cornwall & Devon

The *Karen Folmer* sits upright in around 26 metres, making it a solid choice for those with a bit of wreck diving experience under their belt. We love how intact she is; the cargo shift that sank her back in '83 left her in a surprisingly good state, not just a pile of twisted metal. You can really get a sense of her shape, a 48-metre motor vessel, now well-colonised by the local Cornwall critters. Exploring her holds, you're likely to find conger eels peering from dark corners, their thick bodies shifting as you pass. Shoals of bib often hang around the superstructure, shimmering in the often-green light. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the prop is still visible, encrusted with dead man's fingers and anemones. Visibility here can be changeable, as with most UK diving, so pick a day with lighter winds and a neap tide for the best experience. It’s a proper dive into maritime history, not just another anonymous wreck.
