KILLURIN - Cornwall & Devon

The Killurin is shallow, almost comically so at a maximum depth of two metres, but don't let that fool you. This isn't just a paddle, it's a legitimate wreck dive, our favourite kind of shore entry. You'll find it tucked away in the mouth of the River Erme, a ghost of its former self, having run aground in 1917. What we love about the Killurin is the sheer accessibility for such a storied piece of history. Imagine finning over twisted metal, just beneath the surface, with sunlight dappling through the water. The bow and stern sections are still distinct, though time and tide have taken their toll. What really makes it special for us is the life that has found a home here. We've seen an incredible number of crabs scuttling amongst the plates, and the anemones practically carpet the exposed framework. If you time it right, say, an hour or two either side of low tide on a calm day, the visibility can be surprisingly good, offering a chance to really appreciate the wreck's skeletal remains. It's a dive that suits anyone looking for something a bit different, a chance to connect with history without needing deep dive qualifications. Just watch your buoyancy; it's easy to stir things up.
