KING HARRY - Cornwall & Devon

The King Harry is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. She’s a ferry, sunk in 1936 while being towed up to the Clyde for scrap, an Easterly gale doing her in after she’d already taken a beating near Lizard Point. You drop onto her at 32 metres, and the visibility can be a bit of a lottery, as is often the case in Cornwall. But when it’s good, the sheer scale of her stands out. We love the way she’s mostly intact, a proper ghost ship lying upright. You can trace the deck lines, imagine the cars she once carried. Conger eels are a given here, tucked into every crevice, sometimes surprisingly large. Look for the jewel anemones that carpet parts of the structure, adding splashes of electric orange and pink against the aged metal. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, taking your time to really appreciate the history and the marine life that’s made it home. This one’s definitely for divers who appreciate a bit of history with their wreck diving, and don’t mind the deeper end of the recreational limit.
