KUCHING-LAUT - Cornwall & Devon

The Kuching-Laut, a luxury yacht, isn't just another wreck. She went down in 1981 after a fire, settling upright at 58 metres, and what we love about her is that sense of frozen history. Dropping onto the bridge deck, you can still make out the outline of the helm and navigation equipment. It’s deep, no doubt, so this is one for the tech crowd, but the rewards are there. You'll spend your bottom time exploring a surprisingly intact vessel. Her elegant lines are still visible, now draped in plumose anemones and dead man’s fingers. Conger eels peer from every nook and cranny, and we’ve often seen schools of bib darting through the salon. Our favourite spot is heading aft to the master cabin – there’s a real sense of what this yacht once was. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the English Channel, so pick your day carefully. Look for slack water on a neap tide for the best chance of a clear run.
