LAICEY JAI - Cornwall & Devon

The Laicey Jai is, quite simply, one of our favourite new wrecks in Cornwall. She went down on August 15th, 2024, a fishing vessel now resting upright in just 15 metres. We love an accessible wreck, and this one is perfect for divers looking for a relatively shallow penetration with plenty of interest on the outside. Drop down onto the wheelhouse, which rises a good three metres from the seabed. You can poke around inside, but be aware of snagging hazards – this is a working boat, not a purpose-sunk playground, so expect loose cables and fishing gear. The stern offers a fantastic swim-through, though it’s snug. Already, you’ll find juvenile pollack darting through the superstructure, and the odd spider crab has started to set up home in the darker crevices. Given how recent the sinking was, the growth isn’t extensive yet, but we've already spotted the first signs of hydroids and anemones taking hold. She’s a great pick for a second dive, or for less experienced wreck divers looking to build confidence in a relatively calm, sheltered spot. Keep an eye on the local dive forums; conditions here can be tide-dependent, and we’d always suggest checking with a local centre for the best window.
