L'AVENTURIER - Cornwall & Devon

L’Aventurier is a real curio of a wreck, and we love it for that. At 57 metres, it’s a deep plunge, definitely one for experienced divers comfortable with decompression. This isn’t a massive freighter, it’s a compact 11.3-metre fishing vessel, deliberately scuttled as part of 'Operation Mellick.' The story itself adds a layer of intrigue to the dive. Dropping down, you’ll find it largely intact, resting upright on the seabed. The wheelhouse is a highlight, surprisingly well-preserved, almost beckoning you to peer inside. We've often seen conger eels coiled within the darker recesses, their heads poking out with an air of ancient ownership. Visibility here can vary, but on a good day, the low light filtering down gives the whole scene an atmospheric, almost ghostly feel. It’s a quiet dive, the kind where you can take your time exploring every detail of a vessel that, in another life, worked the Cornish seas. We’d suggest going early morning before any potential boat traffic, as the peace down there is part of its charm.
