LCT 1074 (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The LCT 1074 wreck, a landing craft sunk by a mine in 1944, sits at 40 metres off the coast of Cornwall. This is a dive for those who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a challenge. Dropping onto the wreck, you’ll find the structural integrity still surprisingly good in places, with much of the main hull intact. We love exploring the internal compartments, imagining the cramped conditions for the soldiers it carried. Over the decades, the wreck has become a proper artificial reef. Dead man's fingers cling to the metalwork, and plumose anemones pulse gently in the current. Look closely and you'll spot resident conger eels peeking from pipes, their thick bodies often filling the entire opening. Visibility can be a bit hit or miss, typical for the UK, but on a good day, the scale of the vessel really comes into its own. We’d suggest a slack water dive for the best chance to properly navigate the length of the wreck without battling the English Channel’s notorious push and pull. It's a sombre but fascinating dive, connecting you directly to wartime history.
