LCT 967 - Cornwall & Devon

The LCT 967, a D-Day landing craft sunk by a mine in 1944, offers a surprisingly engaging dive at just 9 metres. We love how accessible this piece of history is, sitting upright and largely intact on the seabed, its bow doors still gaping open. Descending onto the main deck, you can peer into the holds where vehicles would have been carried, now colonised by dead man's fingers and anemones. It’s an ideal site for less experienced wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed second dive. The shallow depth means plenty of bottom time to explore the full 57-metre length. Look closely amongst the twisted metalwork for the resident pollack and the occasional dogfish tucked into crevices. On a day with good visibility, the light filtering down into the holds creates an ethereal glow, illuminating the swaying fronds of kelp that have taken root. Our tip: aim for slack water on a neap tide for the calmest conditions and best vis. It's a sombre reminder of wartime sacrifice, now a vibrant artificial reef.
