LINDBERGH - Cornwall & Devon

The Lindbergh. Now there’s a proper dive for those who love their history with a side of significant depth. We’re talking about a trawler, sunk by a mine in 1943 during the war, resting upright at 60 metres. Dropping down, you really feel the silence of that depth – it’s a different world entirely. What we love about the Lindbergh is how intact she still feels, despite the decades on the seabed. You can often make out the superstructure, even some of the fishing gear, all draped in a thick carpet of plumose anemones. Our favourite part is nosing around the stern, where conger eels have set up proper homes in the darker recesses. The light filters down, often a deep azure, illuminating the schools of pouting that swarm above the decks. This is a dive for experienced technical divers, no doubt about it. The currents can be a bit shifty, so good planning and gas management are key. But if you’re comfortable at that depth, the Lindbergh offers a truly immersive dive into a piece of wartime history, beautifully reclaimed by the ocean.
