LLAMEDOS - Cornwall & Devon

Llamedos. The name itself hints at something a little bit… off. And that’s what we love about this wreck. An 11-metre fishing vessel, it went down in 1983 after reporting pumps unserviceable, then sank completely while under tow by the Torbay lifeboat. There’s a quiet tragedy to that story, a real sense of the sea claiming its own. We’ve found her at around 60 metres, lying upright and largely intact on the seabed. It’s not a huge wreck, but she’s full of character. You can still make out the wheelhouse, the mast, and the remnants of fishing gear. This isn't a brightly coloured reef dive, but the sense of exploration down there is fantastic. Our favourite find? The way the light, even at that depth, plays through the small openings, catching the occasional nudibranch or a scuttling crab. It’s a site for experienced technical divers, absolutely, offering that deep, quiet challenge and the satisfaction of reaching a wreck few others see. Expect some strong currents on the surface, but usually, it’s calmer down on the seabed. Definitely one for the logbook, and a proper taste of UK wreck diving.
