LORD SNOWDEN (PROBABLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Lord Snowden (Probably) is a deep, dramatic dive, and one we always recommend for divers comfortable pushing limits. This trawler, repurposed as an anti-submarine vessel, met its end in 1942 after a collision, settling upright at 60 metres. Dropping down, the hull looms into view, dark and imposing on the seabed. We love the bridge structure; it’s still relatively intact, offering a glimpse into its wartime past. There’s a certain hush down there, a tangible sense of history that’s hard to find on shallower wrecks. The stern deck is our favourite spot for exploring, with its twin rudders and propellers often shrouded in clouds of bib and pollack. Keep an eye out for conger eels tucked into the machinery spaces; they’re pretty territorial and make for some great photo opportunities if you’re patient. This isn’t a dive for the inexperienced; strong currents can sweep through, and the depth demands careful gas planning. We’d suggest a good torch, even on bright days, as the light doesn’t penetrate this deep, and the wreck's structure creates some wonderfully moody shadows. It’s a proper challenge, but the reward is a quiet, profound encounter with a piece of history.
