LST 507 (Stern section) - Cornwall & Devon

The LST 507’s stern is a solemn, impressive dive. It sits upright, a real dark hulk on the seabed at 47 metres, and you feel the weight of its history. We love the scale of it; the stern castle rises high off the sand, and as you descend, the sheer size begins to reveal itself. You can still pick out the huge propeller and rudder, often draped in fishing nets, a constant reminder of the sea’s power. Even without a current, the low light down here creates a moody atmosphere. Look for schools of bib and pollack darting through the superstructure, and the occasional conger eel peeking from a dark hole. Our favourite spot is exploring the deck, imagining the vessel in its prime, though the damage from its sinking is very clear. It’s a dive for experienced divers, given the depth and potential for variable visibility. Come prepared, and you’ll find it a powerful experience.
