LUKE JOHN - Cornwall & Devon

The Luke John is a proper Cornish wreck, sunk in ’91 and now settled in just five metres of water. It’s perfect for those calm, sunny days when you don’t fancy a big boat trip, or if you’re looking to extend your bottom time without the decompression stress. We often head here for a second dive after something deeper, or as a relaxed start to a weekend. You’ll find her mostly intact, lying on her side, with the wheelhouse an obvious feature. What we really love about the Luke John is how accessible it is, and the way the light filters through the shallow water. You get incredible visibility on a good day, allowing you to appreciate the details of the fishing gear still scattered around. Look closely and you’ll spot a surprising amount of life – dogfish often cruise by, and the wreck itself is home to conger eels tucked into shadowy corners and plenty of spider crabs clambering over the metalwork. It’s a gentle exploration, ideal for newer divers building confidence, or photographers who want to play with natural light and wide-angle shots without battling strong currents.
