MAASLUST - Cornwall & Devon

The Maaslust, nestled just off the Cornish coast, is one of those wrecks that just hits right. At a flat 18 metres, it’s a perfect depth for an extended bottom time, making it our pick for a relaxed afternoon dive when the conditions are good. We love the way she sits upright, almost like she’s just dropped anchor. You can still make out the outline of the wheelhouse and the cargo hold, and the bow is particularly impressive, rising from the seabed. This isn’t a massive wreck, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in character. Over the years, the metalwork has become completely encrusted; a thick carpet of plumose anemones shimmers across the decks, and dead man’s fingers cling to every available surface. Look closely in the nooks and crannies, and you’ll often spot lobsters peeking out, or a sneaky conger eel tucked away. On a bright day, with a bit of sunlight filtering through the green Cornish water, it’s genuinely beautiful. Currents can pick up, so we always suggest diving on a neap tide, or at slack water, to fully appreciate her. It’s ideal for less experienced wreck divers looking for a straightforward, engaging exploration without the added challenge of strong currents or extreme depth.
