MARGARET ROSE - Cornwall & Devon

The *Margaret Rose* isn’t your typical grand wreck, but we love it for its quiet charm and easy diving. This 8-metre angling pleasure craft, built of GRP, suffered a fire before sinking, and now rests upright at a shallow 17 metres. It’s a perfect little dive for shaking off the rust or introducing newer divers to wreck exploration. What you see here is a compact, surprisingly intact frame, colonised beautifully by anemones and hydroids. Sunlight filters down, illuminating the ghostly outlines of its previous life. Look closely and you’ll find plenty of small crabs scuttling in the nooks and crannies, and often, a shy conger eel peeking from beneath a salvaged section. It’s not a site for penetration, but it's brilliant for a relaxed potter around, taking your time to notice the details. Our favourite time to dive it is on a calm day, when visibility stretches out and you can appreciate the sheer volume of life clinging to such a small vessel.
