MARGUERITE (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Marguerite, or what we strongly suspect is her, offers a proper slice of WWI history down at 30 metres. This isn't a site for beginners; it’s often a low visibility dive, so you need to be comfortable in murk and a bit of current. Built in 1912, torpedoed in 1917, she’s well-broken now, but the scale of her is still apparent in the spread of her plates and frames. We love hunting for the scattered boiler sections – they’re always a good anchor for finding some decent conger eels. What you get here is atmosphere, a real sense of a vessel caught mid-voyage. The bow section is our favourite part, feeling the shape of it emerge from the gloom, often with a school of pollack hanging above like a shimmering curtain. Look into the shadows of the twisted metal for lobster and plenty of those shy velvet swimming crabs. It’s a dive that rewards patience and a good torch, perfect for those who appreciate wrecks with a story etched into their very structure.
