MINERVA (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

Now, we’re talking about a proper piece of history here, the Minerva. A wooden sailing vessel, down since 1816, off the coast of Cornwall. It’s not one of those huge, intact wrecks you can swim through, but that's precisely why we love it. What you get here is pure archaeological gold – the scattered remains of a ship that sailed during the Napoleonic era. Diving the Minerva is less about penetration and more about careful exploration, poking around the debris field. The timbers are now well-integrated with the seabed, often covered in dead man's fingers and colourful jewel anemones. We’ve found old pottery shards and bits of rigging here, lying exactly where they fell over two centuries ago. It feels like you’re diving an underwater museum, a connection to a different world. Visibility can be a typical Cornish affair, anywhere from 5 to 15 metres, but when it’s good, the light filtering down onto those encrusted timbers is something else. It's a site that really rewards a slow, methodical dive, perfect for those who appreciate the story as much as the spectacle. You'll often spot dogfish nestled amongst the timbers and plump wrasse darting in and out of the crevices.
