MITERA MARIGO - Cornwall & Devon

The Mitera Marigo, just off Falmouth, is one of our favourite wreck dives in Cornwall, especially if you appreciate a good backstory. She went down in 1959 after a collision, towed into Carrick Roads only to sink for good, and now she’s a genuinely striking sight at 21 meters. When you drop down, the first thing you notice is how intact the bow section still feels, rearing up from the seabed. You can see the anchor chains snaking off, and the sheer scale of the ship is impressive. Inside, we’ve often found conger eels tucked into shadowy corners, sometimes a decent-sized one, its head peeking out, eyes following you. The stern section is more broken up, but it makes for interesting rummaging amongst the plates, where squat lobsters and crabs are always scuttling. Visibility can be a bit hit or miss here – if you get it on a good day, 10-15 meters, the wreck really comes alive with schools of pollock circling above the superstructure. It's a proper British wreck dive, moody and full of character, best suited for those comfortable with deeper dives and a bit of current.
