MOODY LADY - Cornwall & Devon

We've got a soft spot for the Moody Lady, especially when the sun is out and the water's flat calm. It’s barely a dive in terms of depth, just 4 metres, but don't let that put you off. This old sailing vessel, grounded back in '73 on the West Pole Bank, is a proper graveyard for barnacles and a nursery for crabs. You’re really just snorkelling or free-diving around the ribs of what was once a proud boat. We love swimming slowly over the skeletal remains, watching pipefish ghost through the seaweed that clings to the timbers. The light penetrates right to the bottom here, illuminating little bursts of colour from anemones and sponges. It’s not about big fish or dramatic drop-offs, it's about connecting with a piece of history and the surprisingly rich, shallow-water life that’s made it home. Our pick for a relaxed afternoon with a camera, or for getting newer divers comfortable around a real wreck without any of the depth anxiety.
