NEREE (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

There’s a quiet satisfaction to diving a historical wreck, and the Neree offers exactly that. She’s a sturdy trawler, lying upright and mostly intact at 46 metres, making her a solid choice for experienced wreck divers comfortable with depth. Dropping down, the bow is often the first thing to emerge from the green gloom, followed by the distinctive lines of her fishing heritage. We love exploring the winch gear forward, now completely encrusted with plumose anemones, their feathery white tentacles swaying gently in the subtle current. The Neree isn’t a flashy wreck, but she’s honest. Her hold is open, and if you're comfortable with a penetration, it's a relatively straightforward swim through. Inside, conger eels often lurk in the shadowed corners, and we’ve seen some impressively large lobsters tucked into crevices in the collapsed decking. The stern section is also worth a good look, particularly the prop shaft, which can be a good spot for bib and pollock. On a clear day, with a bit of sunlight filtering through the deep water, the colours of the anemones and dead man’s fingers are surprisingly vibrant. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, letting the wreck’s history speak for itself.
