NORTHLANDS (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

Northlands is an absolute monster of a wreck, and for us, it's easily one of the best deep dives in the area. Dropping down onto her feels like entering a different world entirely. The wreck lies at 50 metres, so it's one for those comfortable with deeper dives and a good understanding of gas management. We love tracing the torpedo damage, a stark reminder of her fate back in 1915; you can almost feel the history. The hull is pretty broken, but that just means more nooks and crannies to explore. We’ve found conger eels the size of small trees lurking in the larger compartments, and the shoals of bib and pouting around the superstructure can be so thick they genuinely blot out the light. Look out for the resident cuckoo wrasse, they’re particularly bold here. Visibility can be a bit of a gamble, but when it’s good, the scale of Northlands really hits you. Our advice? Go on a slack tide, obviously, but also aim for a day with minimal surface chop. It makes the ride out and back a lot more pleasant when you’re anticipating a long deco.
