Ole Kynde, just off the Cornish coast, is a proper treat for wreck divers who appreciate a bit of history. She was a wooden trawler, repurposed as a pleasure boat, that came to grief back in '76. Now she lies in shallow water, a fantastic playground at just 10 metres. We love how accessible she is; it's a great spot for those getting into wreck diving, or for experienced folk who want to potter about without deep decompression limits. The wreck itself is beautifully broken up, a mosaic of timber and metal that’s really softened with age. You can trace her lines, imagining her journey from trawler to yacht. Inside, where the hull has collapsed, we often find conger eels peering out from gaps, their thick bodies camouflaged against the dark wood. Look closely at the ribs of the boat and you'll see tiny jewel anemones, brilliant orange and pink, catching the light. Our favourite time to dive Ole Kynde is on a calm, sunny day with a slack tide – the visibility can be surprisingly good then, and the light penetration really brings out the colours on the wreck. It's not a deep, dramatic penetration dive, but rather a chance to intimately explore a piece of maritime heritage that’s gracefully blending back into the seabed, teeming with life.
