PEARL (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Pearl, or Possibly, is a deep, dramatic wreck off the coast of Cornwall, a real favourite of ours for experienced tech divers. She’s a steamship, sunk in 1916 by a German U-boat, and lies upright at 49 metres, often in gloom, which only adds to the atmosphere. We love how intact she is, the bow still points purposefully into the current, and you can make out the lines of the cargo holds. Dropping down, the silence is profound, broken only by your own bubbles, and the water temperature at this depth can be bracing, even in summer. The wreck itself is a riot of colour in the right conditions, golds and purples from the jewel anemones that plaster every surface, and we’ve often found conger eels peering from dark recesses, their eyes reflecting torchlight. It’s a dive that demands careful planning and execution, but the rewards are immense; a tangible piece of history, reclaimed by the sea. This is a site for those who appreciate the somber beauty of a deep wreck, where the play of light and shadow creates an ethereal experience.
