PEGASUS - Cornwall & Devon

Pegasus, a fishing trawler that went down quickly near Mevagissey back in 2001, isn't a deep dive, sitting at a comfortable 18 metres. It’s perfect for those newer to wreck diving or anyone who fancies a relaxed potter around a genuine piece of local maritime history. We love the way it’s settled on the seabed; there’s a real sense of its final moments, even decades later. What you'll find here is a small, relatively intact hull that feels wonderfully intimate. The wheelhouse is still discernible, and you can swim right into the hold, which we always find a bit eerie, imagining the nets that once filled it. Sunlight often dapples through, illuminating the resident bib and pollack that dart in and out of the openings. On a good day, with decent visibility, the sight of it emerging from the green Cornish water is quite something. Keep an eye out for dogfish tucked under plating and nudibranchs clinging to the superstructure; they’re often there if you look closely. It’s a gentle wreck, a peaceful exploration, and our pick for a second dive of the day when you want something interesting without being too challenging.
