PETER PAUL - Cornwall & Devon

The Peter Paul isn't your grand, intact freighter, and that's precisely why we love it. This 10-meter fishing vessel, lost to a Jersey storm back in '75, is now a scattered puzzle across the bedrock of Bouley Bay. You won't penetrate engine rooms here; instead, you'll trace the ribs of a broken hull, a jumble of plates and machinery that time and tide have thoroughly worked over. We find the Peter Paul particularly charming on a calm day, when the sun penetrates the usually green Cornish water, picking out the brass fittings and twisted metal. It's an ideal spot for those who enjoy hunting for macro life – the nooks and crannies are packed with tiny crabs, blennies peeking from rust holes, and the occasional dogfish tucked under a larger plate. Our favourite is exploring the way the kelp has completely colonised some sections, creating swaying underwater forests around the ship's bones. It's a gentle drift dive across history, perfect for photographers with a keen eye for detail or newer divers looking for a relaxed wreck experience.
