PITCHIPOY (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Pitchipoy, or "Possibly" as it’s often affectionately known, sits down at 43 metres, a proper deep dive for those comfortable with their trimix and decompression. It’s a sailing vessel, sunk back in 1980, and while its history isn't as grand as some of the older wrecks in Cornwall, it has developed its own unique character. What we love about this one is the way the wreck has settled; she’s mostly intact, lying on her port side, giving you a real sense of her original form. We often find conger eels tucked into the deeper recesses of the hull and inquisitive bib darting in and out of the broken decking. The visibility here can be hit or miss, typical for the English Channel, but when it’s good, the light filtering down to 43m gives the wreck a beautifully eerie glow. Our favourite part has to be the mast, still largely upright, providing a vertical playground for divers and a strong landmark against the often silty seabed. It’s a great site for experienced wreck divers looking for a deeper challenge and a quiet piece of underwater history.
