REPUBLIQUE ET PATRIE - Cornwall & Devon

Sometimes the sheer history of a wreck is enough. The *Republique et Patrie*, a grand old sailing vessel built in 1888, met its end in 1918 after hitting floating wreckage. She’s a deep dive at 36 metres, so come prepared for decompression and a proper torch. What we love about this wreck is how intact she feels for her age and depth. The stern is a particularly atmospheric spot, often shrouded in a green twilight, with the rudder still visible and an incredible density of plumose anemones carpeting every surface. We’ve often seen conger eels peering from dark recesses, and schools of pollock darting through the skeletal remains of the deck. It’s a proper wreck dive, best for those with advanced certs and a love for maritime history. Don't expect tropical colours, but the sheer volume of life in the gloom is genuinely captivating.
