TROIKA - Cornwall & Devon

We’ve always had a soft spot for the Troika, a trimaran that met its end back in '98. It’s a great little starter wreck, especially if you’re new to UK diving. Lying in 21 metres, it’s well within recreational limits and surprisingly intact for its size. You can still make out the distinct triple hull, a neat contrast to some of the bigger, more broken up wrecks we frequent. What we love most here is how quickly nature has reclaimed it. The internal spaces, while small, are home to inquisitive wrasse darting in and out, and the exposed surfaces are completely encrusted with plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. Keep an eye out for dogfish tucked into the sand nearby, and if you’re lucky, a curious grey seal might make an appearance. Our tip: go on a calm day; the visibility really makes a difference, turning the wreck into a clear, albeit cold, exploration.
