U 672 (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The U 672 is one of those deeper dives that just gets under your skin. We love a good submarine wreck, and while the "POSSIBLY" in its name means there’s still a touch of mystery, the sheer scale down at 60 metres is undeniable. Dropping down, you’ll start to pick out the distinct silhouette of a U-boat, surprisingly intact given its violent end in 1944. We've found the stern section often has the most to explore, with torpedo tubes still visible, though time and tide have definitely taken their toll. What really brings this wreck to life is the way the cold water corals have started to bloom across the metalwork – jewel anemones in particular just pop with colour against the dark steel. It’s a challenging dive, certainly, needing solid deep diving experience and gas planning, but for those who make the journey, it’s a tangible piece of history blanketed in vibrant life. You’ll spend your bottom time tracing the deck, imagining the final moments, with conger eels peering out from shadowed crevices where the crew once moved. Our favourite time to visit is on a slack tide, naturally, but also when there’s a good north-easterly blowing; it tends to flatten out the surface chop and makes the ride out far more pleasant.
