UB 37 (PROBABLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The UB 37, probably, is a genuinely special wreck. Descending to 58 metres, this German U-boat is often overlooked for its more famous contemporaries, but we think that's a mistake. She sits upright, largely intact, and you can still make out the conning tower, the torpedo tubes, and the stern section. We’ve always been drawn to the eerie silence down there, the way the light fades, and the sheer historical weight of a vessel where all hands were lost. Visibility in this part of the Channel can be hit-or-miss, but on a good day, the UB 37 is a stunner. Shoals of bib and pouting often swirl around the superstructure, and the encrusting life-anemones, dead man's fingers-is thick, adding colour to the grey steel. For experienced technical divers, it's a real privilege to explore, offering a deep dive into history and a poignant reminder of the past. Definitely bring a good light; there are crevices and nooks that reveal their secrets only when properly illuminated.
