USS FIRESTONE (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The USS Firestone, or what we believe to be her, is one of those wrecks that just sinks its hooks in. Lying at 43 metres, she’s a deep dive and often a dark one, even on a sunny day. We love the way she sits upright, still feeling like a ship, not just a pile of scrap. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer scale. She’s big. Schools of pollack often swirl around the superstructure, a silver cloud against the green water. We’ve seen conger eels that look like tree trunks poking out of every nook and cranny, and the deck guns are still there, heavily encrusted with dead man's fingers and anemones. It’s a proper expedition dive, best for experienced divers comfortable with limited visibility and the chill of the Atlantic. Our favourite part is exploring the stern, where the prop shaft housing is often home to some serious lobster. It’s a moody, atmospheric dive, definitely not for the faint of heart, but incredibly rewarding if you’re up for the challenge.
