W Woolvern (Possibly) - Cornwall & Devon

Alright, let's talk about the *W Woolvern*, or what we *think* is the *W Woolvern* off Cornwall. Deep wrecks in British waters always hold a special pull, don't they? This isn't one for beginners, dropping to 49 metres, so save it for when you’re comfortable with decompression and overhead environments. What you'll find down there is a trawler, laid out flat, surprisingly intact for something that caught fire and sank while under tow. We love the story behind this one, the crew rescued by helicopter – feels very British. The structure itself is a fantastic wreck to navigate, the wheelhouse is still there, and you can poke around in a few of the hold sections. Visibility here can be hit or miss, typical for the UK, but on a good day, when that green light penetrates, the sheer volume of plumose anemones smothering every surface is just incredible. They bloom like underwater flowers. Our favourite tip for this site: go with a guide who knows the specific mooring, because finding a relatively small trawler at 49 metres in even a slight current can be a proper faff. Keep an eye out for conger eels too, they’re usually lurking in the shadows.
