WARWICK DEEPING - Cornwall & Devon

The Warwick Deeping. Now this is a proper wreck dive, sitting upright at 34 metres. We love how the history just hangs in the water here; sunk by gunfire in 1940, you can almost feel the chaos of that day. It's not a site for the faint-hearted, often experiencing a good push from the current, but that just adds to its wild Cornish charm. Visibility here can be 5 metres or 20, it’s the Channel after all, but even on a murky day, the sheer scale of this 47.5-metre trawler is impressive. We usually drop onto the stern, then slowly work our way forward, past the collapsed mast and into the bow section. The structure is well-broken but still recognisable, and the resident conger eels are truly enormous. We've seen crabs the size of dinner plates scuttling across the deck plates, and our favourite part is always the engine room, which is still remarkably intact and offers some great swim-throughs if you're comfortable with overhead environments. It’s a site for experienced wreck divers who appreciate a bit of British history and don't mind a bit of a challenge.
